Mombasa is an Island with a rich culture and the second largest city in Kenya. Located in the beautiful Eastern coastline region of Kenya and bordering the Indian Ocean, this Island was originally called Manbasa by the Arabs who had settled there. The Portuguese soon conquered the Arabs in 1592 shaping the city into Portugal’s main trading centre. Fort Jesus, a historic Monument was constructed at that time. It served as the main centre for trading prison slaves, goods and as fortress.
Locally referred to as “Mombasa raha” meaning a place full of fun, it is divided into two i.e. Southern Coast and Northern Coast. Accommodation is top class and is a must visit while on vacation to Kenya. The Kenyan Coast has been widely visited due to its magnificent shores, stunning hotels and rich culture.
